I absolutely love being able to capture memories for families. It is why I do what I do as a photographer. To freeze a moment in time, to portray the love in a relationship, to give families something tangible to hold onto when that moment has passed.
This session was part of the Daddy and Me Mini Sessions for Father's Day. The difference with this one is that it is a grandfather and his grandson. Precious. Perfect. Back in June, I held a day of Mini Sessions to celebrate the relationship a Father has with his children. This family asked if I would be willing to include a couple of them as a family as they didn't have any family portraits. Of course I said yes! They are a lovely couple with a beautiful little boy.
A mother is someone who dreams great dreams for you, but then she lets you chase the dreams you have for yourself and loves you just the same. I love watching a mom with her child. There is just something almost magical about it. They smile and talk and most of the time they forget I am there with the camera at all - which is exactly what I hope will happen.
We were supposed to be outside for this session, but 30 seconds after they stepped out of the car it started to rain. And not just a little drizzle either. So we packed up and headed for a nice, warm indoor spot. Just perfect for a little girl in a summery sundress. I love moments that just happen, that freeze a child in his tracks, that resembles life every day in the houses of the families I have the honour of photographing. This family was great. Mom brought dad along to help wrangle the kids and he was an excellent bubble blower :) The kids were happy and silly and full of energy, just the way kids should be. It was a joy to be able to give mom some pictures of just her and the kids.
After having to post-pone the Mommy and Me sessions due to snow (at the end of April) we had a beautiful day for them. In a spot sheltered from the wind it was warm and sunny. Perfect for the munchkin and her gorgeous Mommy! She was such a happy little girl. So curious about everything. I love this age.. .OK who am I kidding? I love all ages :) I love meeting new families and their precious children. Is she not adorable? Yeah, I thought so too!
As Moms, it is easy to come up with a reason not to step in front of the camera. We aren't happy with how we look, we think it doesn't matter to the kids, so many reasons.
Can I let you in on a little secret? Captures these moments with your kids before they grow up. Childhood disappears too quickly and when they are grown your kids are going to want pictures of you and them. They see you every day, the little wrinkle here or weight just you just haven't lost since giving birth - your kids see you and love you regardless of that! So step out in front of the lens and |
