It's easy to believe in magic when you're young. Anything you couldn't explain was magic then. It didn't matter if it was science or a fairy tale. Electricity and elves were both infinitely mysterious and equally possible — elves probably more so. ~Charles de Lint
As I photographer, I love the unscripted of storytelling sessions. They are real moments in you life, frozen so that in years to come, when your kids have kids of their own, they can look back and not just remember what they did, but my hope is that the images I take for you will be filled with the emotion of the day as well. Your kids are covered in dirt from head to toe? Your little one refuses to smile without crossing his eyes? roll with it because it is who they are. It is my job to create a work of art from the moments that your family treasures. I do that best in relaxed, in home settings. These images were taken at 8:30 in the morning. I wasn't even going to bother bringing the camera down to the dock . ..the kids weren't going to go in they said. I am glad I did. Because the following images are some of my favourite from our time on Lake Simcoe. So when you hire a photographer, trust them. Let them work their magic and capture your family in the style of photography that is dear to their hearts - the images you get will be better for it!!
We love summer here at Moment in Time Photography. It is the time of year where adventures are had, long days are spent exploring and running wild and free. Summer is the time of year where children can truly be themselves, there are no constraints on their time and each day is filled with waiting adventure.
"You live your life in minutes and hours. You move along beside the people you love, and in the midst of all the moments, in the middle of all the movement, you don't stop to commit things to memory. You never imagine there is anything that is going to be of historical importance, or that someone is going to come along and quiz you about things." -Stuart McLean Revenge of the Vinyl Cafe Every year we take the kids to cut down a tree - except if someone is sick, then we all pile into the van, drive to Home Depot and grab the first wrapped up tree we see while the sick kid sits in the van and the other complain about not being able to cut one down and how can we "PLEASE just go and cut it. . . .this is boring and you can't even see what they look like." Some years it is rain boot weather because the temperatures have soared about zero, and some years it is -45 C and we have the tree cut and are back in the van in under 10 mintues. This year was perfect. It was sunny (!) and the the thermometer was hovering somewhere just below zero. There was a wind, but the kids don't notice that as they run and hide and yell every 30 seconds that "We've FOUND it!!! THIS ONE, THIS ONE is the PERFECT one!" and then giggle like hyenas because it very obviously isn't the perfect one! "All these little moments, he thought, who knows which ones are going to count and which ones will be forgotten."
-Stuart McLean Revenge of the Vinyl Cafe "We must take adventures in order to know where we truly belong."
There is nothing better then spending a long weekend camping, even if it is grey, cool and foggy much of the weekend. Adventure is all around us, we only need to be willing to step out for it to find us. When with my kids, I gravitate to the details, the little things that I am going to forget in 10 years, but want to remember. The way they group together to intently study whatever creature they have found, the sand stuck to their toes, the wind blown hair. All of it matters, all of it draws me. "Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter." -Brad Henry This June, my dad turned 65. We drove approximately 1500 kms to surprise him for a weekend celebration over the Victoria Day weekend in May.

"The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes." - Marcel Proust As a photographer I strive to freeze time, to capture moments that would otherwise be forgotten, to find beauty in the everyday of life, joy in the chaos. It has been a loooooong winter here in Thunder Bay this year. One that has been super super cold and snowy and lasting for.ev.er.! So when Spring decides to tease us, we enjoy every.single.mintue. of it, for we are never sure when the next set of snow clouds will blow in. "The journey in between what you once were,
and who you are becoming, is where the dance of life really takes place." - Barbara De Angelis |
