A mother is someone who dreams great dreams for you, but then she lets you chase the dreams you have for yourself and loves you just the same. I love watching a mom with her child. There is just something almost magical about it. They smile and talk and most of the time they forget I am there with the camera at all - which is exactly what I hope will happen.
We were supposed to be outside for this session, but 30 seconds after they stepped out of the car it started to rain. And not just a little drizzle either. So we packed up and headed for a nice, warm indoor spot. Just perfect for a little girl in a summery sundress. I love moments that just happen, that freeze a child in his tracks, that resembles life every day in the houses of the families I have the honour of photographing. This family was great. Mom brought dad along to help wrangle the kids and he was an excellent bubble blower :) The kids were happy and silly and full of energy, just the way kids should be. It was a joy to be able to give mom some pictures of just her and the kids.
After having to post-pone the Mommy and Me sessions due to snow (at the end of April) we had a beautiful day for them. In a spot sheltered from the wind it was warm and sunny. Perfect for the munchkin and her gorgeous Mommy! She was such a happy little girl. So curious about everything. I love this age.. .OK who am I kidding? I love all ages :) I love meeting new families and their precious children. Is she not adorable? Yeah, I thought so too!
When she dances it is pure joy. Her smile radiates excitement and passion.
At 6, there is a confidence there when she is on stage that amazes me, a sureness that she is where she is meant to be in that moment. I have wanted to do this session since February - I wanted sun, and I wanted it to be warm enough (read not -25!) so that she wouldn't freeze and I could get the pictures I wanted. So Sunday morning we headed out, it had snowed the night before, so I knew it would be slushy but the temperature was warm (+5) and it was sunny so off we went. And yes, there is still snow. . .in April. But that is just one of the joys of living in North Western Ontario! I got to photograph this sweet girl as a newborn and it was my delight to be able to do their Christmas pictures. Little girl is adorable and full of energy, and Mom and Dad are fun and loving. Time is one of our most valuable possessions. Use it wisely. Remind yourselves often that things that matter most should not be left to the mercy of things that matter least. I have found that if you love life, life will love you back As Moms, it is easy to come up with a reason not to step in front of the camera. We aren't happy with how we look, we think it doesn't matter to the kids, so many reasons.
Can I let you in on a little secret? Captures these moments with your kids before they grow up. Childhood disappears too quickly and when they are grown your kids are going to want pictures of you and them. They see you every day, the little wrinkle here or weight just you just haven't lost since giving birth - your kids see you and love you regardless of that!
